Growing up on the Texas-Mexico Border, I often time yearn to find something that reminds me of home. After moving to Austin, Texas seven years ago, it was difficult to find places and foods that reminded me of The Rio Grande Valley. Luckily, I found a little taste of home in Austin.
A Taste of Home in Austin
I had to ask around and drive around to find some places that reminded me of The Rio Grande Valley. After a semi extensive search I found Marketplace Austin (Mi Mercado). Market Place Austin or “La Pulga” is located on North Lamar Blvd. La Pulga is the Spanish translation of Flea Market.
Market Place Austin reminds of growing up on the South Texas border. It has everything from jewelery, musical instruments, boots to elote en vaso (corn in a cup), tacos, snacks, Mexican candies and much much more! It truly is an experience. This place brings back memories of my dad and I crossing over to Mexico, eating delicious food and drinking beer.
A short drive north on Lamar Blvd will get you to Marketplace Austin. Located inside a large warehouse, it has been transformed into an awesome bazaar.
Dad Tip: Kids will love all the cheap toys. Spend a few buck and buy a few. After they forget about it, donate it, trust me they won’t miss it![googlemaps https://www.google.com/maps/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d6360.065029536874!2d-97.69210010328915!3d30.374643664117688!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x0%3A0x17ed6ab99deb8c92!2sMarketplace+Austin!5e1!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1474725890894&w=600&h=450]
