Nestled in Orange County, California, right next to Anaheim, is the city of Buena Park. Home to fun attractions such as Knott’s Berry Farm, Medieval Times and Pirate’s Dinner Adventure, Buena Park definitely needs to be on your list if you’re heading to Southern California for a family getaway. Let’s explore!

Starting off at Rock and Brews

Our Buena Park adventure began with a stop into Rock and Brews, the restaurant that features amazing rock and roll paraphernalia, a fantastic beer selection and a great family friendly food menu. The Rock and Brews concept was conceived over a casual brainstorming session with restaurateur Michael Zeslis and KISS band members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons.

What has resulted is a rock and roll infused dining experience that is fun and filling! When you walk into Rock and Brews Buena Park, you’re greeted by the friendly host staff and overwhelmed with the floor to ceiling rock history. Spanning from the classic rock era to modern rock, Rock and Brews has album art and concert photos hung on the walls and huge TVs playing retro rock videos from the 70s to today.

As a music junkie, I thoroughly enjoyed sharing some great videos of 80s and 90s music that I watched as a kid on MTV with my children. They enjoyed seeing the videos of fun tunes like Eye of the Tiger – songs we rock out to regularly at home. 🙂

When you sit down, you’re greeted with two menus – one is a beer menu that covers the 50+ beers on tap and another is the food menu that features comfort foods and local cuisine specific to each region Rock and Brews has a location.

I’m a certified beer snob and even as such, I was impressed with the beer selection at Rock and Brews. They had a wide selection of dark and light beers – enough selection for any beer fan to be happy with their choice. I also respect that the tap list featured many local brews, from Orange County to LA to San Diego.

As far as dining options, we opted for an appetizer followed by salad and pizza. For our appetizer, we had the tri tip steak lettuce wraps, followed by the Strawberry Fields salad and R&B Pizza. Each food item was flavorful and succulent and the kids dug in as well as the parents. While the atmosphere is great and fun, Rock and Brews backs that up with solid cuisine that is tasteful!

I highly recommend Rock and Brews for a solid dining experience that satisfies picky kids, beer snob parents and all those who appreciate good music. 🙂

Getting medieval at Medieval Times!

Later on our trip, we were able to take in a show at Medieval Times. After a enjoyable experience last year at Pirate’s Dinner Adventure, our family was anxious to check out the sister property of Medieval Times.

The adventure at Medieval begins the moment you check in and are greeted by knights that verify your tickets and give your family its color that corresponds to where you sit in the arena and which knight you cheer on during the show. After check-in you go into the lobby area where an MC welcomes the groups and puts on a little show to intro the storyline of the performance to come. You can buy an adult drink and/or souvenirs to remember your Medieval Times experience.

Soon, you’re welcomed in to the arena and sat in your area. The arena is oval shaped and encompasses the large performance area. The show begins promptly with each knight greeting their cheering crew.

The show is incredible and is comprised of beautiful Spanish horses, jousting and other knight games. As you watch the 2 hour show, you’re also eating the four-course meal that consists of a salad, soup, chicken main meal and desert. As an interesting twist, there’s no cutlery and you’re eating with your hands – which is fun!

Medieval Times is a must-see experience if you’re in Buena Park. With dinner and entertainment all in one show, it can’t be beat!

The Radison Suites as home base

During our time in Buena Park, we stayed at the Radisson Suites, which is conveniently located down the street from Knott’s Berry Farm, across the street from Rock and Brews and next door to Medieval Times.

The hotel has a fantastic lobby that welcomes you and leads out to the outdoor pool. Our kids loved swimming in the pool, but do be advised that it gets deep quite fast, just in case you have developing swimmers.

Also, there’s a great buffet style breakfast with outdoor seating that we took advantage of during our mornings before heading out for experiences.

Radison Suites Buena Park is actively refurbishing the property’s suites and when the renovations are complete, it will be great for Buena Park visitors.
