Do you want to visit Disney after hours?
Imagine. No crowds. No lines. Free Mickey ice cream.
Now you can enjoy Magic Kingdom virtually all to yourself now that Walt Disney World has introduced Disney After Hours, a hard-ticket event (cost separate from normal hours park admission) that opens the Magic Kingdom to a small, select group of guests after the park officially closes.
Disney After Hours
Currently, this special event will only take place on seven select nights from April 14 through May 19, 2016. The remaining nights are May 5, 8, 12, and 19, 2016. Officially, the hours for Disney After Hours run from 11:00PM-2:00AM, however, the ticket will grant guests access as early as 7PM, providing seven full hours of Magic Kingdom fun! Magic Kingdom will close to day guests at 10PM, so you should expect some verification of your special event pass in the park from 10-11PM.
What’s does this magical experience cost? $149.00 per ticket, not including tax. This may seem a bit steep, however let’s consider some facts. A one-day Magic Kingdom ticket on May 8, 2016 (the next Disney After Hours event day) will cost you $110, plus tax. This does not include free drinks and ice cream, but does include a miserably hot day standing in lines that go on, forever. For less than $50 more, you get seven full hours in the Magic Kingdom with virtually no waits and free Mickey ice cream bars! This early entrance also gives you the chance to see the parade and fireworks before the official event begins.
*Note: Disney is currently offering a 50% discount to Annual Passholder guests on select Disney After Hours nights.
My wife and I recently had the opportunity to attend the Disney After Hours event as part of the Summer Awakens media events (this was a comped visit as part of the media event). Magic Kingdom was completely empty! We rode on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train without a wait and when we finished the coaster, Disney Cast Members on the ride asked if we wanted to go again. We walked off one train, around the queue, and onto the next train without a wait! No FastPass+ required, no My Disney Experience headaches, and no standing in the hot sun!
We enjoyed several Cokes and Mickey ice cream bars. So much for the diet. Took pictures of the park without any people blocking the shot of Cinderella Castle. Watched fireworks and enjoyed a stress-free visit to the Magic Kingdom! When was the last time you heard “stress-free” and Magic Kingdom in the same sentence? That’s worth twice the price of admission!
Only certain rides and attractions will be open during the event and of course, that’s subject to change based on the whims of the Mouse.
Currently, almost every ride that you could want to experience is available, including the three Mountains (Space, Thunder, and Splash), Pirates of the Caribbean, and Jungle Cruise. Even the Princess Fairytale Hall will be open, so you can meet with your favorite Disney Princesses!
My wife took video of the experience and you can watch that, below. You will see how empty the park was for this special event.
Please note that the number of tickets available is limited. In addition, all tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and are only valid for admission during the special event date and hours.
