I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: cruising with kids is never a bad idea. Never.
Taking a cruise with your kids is capable of giving parents the best of two worlds; a family vacation AND a couples-only getaway. Cruising with kids AND with Disney is like getting the best of four different worlds. Which is otherwordly, obviously.
Now, with Disney Cruise Line’s new Marvel Day At Sea program on 15 sailings starting this fall, the experience of a family cruise gets out of this world too. Enjoy epic, once in a lifetime family cruises featuring the debut of Black Panther and Loki and marking the first official appearance of Iron Man on a Disney Cruise Line ship.
Here’s some of what you and your superhero kids will enjoy on board the Disney Magic during one of the Marvel Day at Sea sailings:
Movie Premieres at Midnight
Cruising during a week a big Marvel movie opens? No worries, you’ll get the movie on it’s release day at midnight under the stars while somewhere out at sea. Then you can have this kind of conversation with your friends stuck on land:
“Oh, you saw the new Disney movie at the local mall on the day it came out? That’s cool.”
“We saw it in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, under the stars.”
Marvel Superhero Drawing Classes
There’s almost too much to mention in one blog post about all that you and your kids will be able to do during Marvel Day at Sea!
I’m highlighting the Marvel drawing classes because my artistic family is most excited about the chance to learn how to draw our favorite Marvel heroes and villains. My oldest will probably go with Loki, my youngest Black Widow for sure, and I’d like to learn how to make Thor appear on the page as something more than a bulky stick figure with awesome flowing hair!
Super Daycare and Heroic Kid Clubs
Not only will all of your kids be cared for by experts on board the Disney Magic, during Marvel Day at Sea cruises they will play with their favorite superheroes in the different kids clubs including the Marvel’s Avengers Academy in the Oceaneer Club! There, young crime-fighters are transported to a high-tech command post used by The Avengers for special missions and operations training. Iron Man’s suit of armor, Captain America’s shield and Thor’s hammer will be on display to inspire super hero kid “recruits” during their academy missions. Marvel’s Avengers Academy is a multi-day, immersive entertainment experience where children interact with Marvel characters and get to unleash their inner super heroes.
Meanwhile, the smallest cruisers will have a blast too! Your babies and toddlers will frolic in the whimsical It’s a Small World Nursery and be cared for by trained counselors. Note: there’s an additional fee not included in your booking for having your babes do their business in the nursery during your family’s Disney Cruise. Also, the It’s a Small World Nursery requires advance reservations and can fill up quickly!
Private Island Pit Stop and/or a Day at Disney World
During the six Marvel Day at Sea sailings heading south from NYC, you and your kids will enjoy a day on Disney’s private Bahamian island, Castaway Cay, AND a day spent in the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World (during a Port Canaveral stop). Talk about best of both worlds!
Marvel superheros, a private island PLUS Park Hopper entry tickets + bus transportation to and from WDW?!?!
…and that’s only the beginning of your Disney Cruise from New York Harbor!
(The seven Marvel Day at Sea cruises from Miami in 2018 include stops at Castaway Cay but not Walt Disney World…although, you know, the Magic Kingdom IS just a few hours away from port. Wise Disney-loving families will either start or end or start AND end their Disney cruise vacation in Orlando!)
After a decade+ of me introducing them to my favorite bands, sports teams, and toys from an 80’s childhood, we’ve reached the remarkably fun point of family life where my daughters are discovering their own favorite things to become passionate about and geek out over…and they are sharing all of that with me!
Being a non-comic book kid, I was never into superheroes but my kids are loving life in the Marvel Universe and bringing me up to speed as best they can.
The Marvel 101 classes on board the Disney Magic will provide super, albeit novice superhero, dads like me a chance to match wits with his kids during his family’s Marvel Day at Sea cruise!
Meet and Greets with 11 Marvel Characters
Whether you love Black Widow or Dr. Strange, Captain America or Iron Man, or if Black Panther, Loki or Hawkeye is your guy, you and your kids will have a chance to meet, greet, hi-5 and hang out with as many as 11 Marvel characters during your family’s Marvel Day at Sea Disney Cruise!
Mystic Arts Stage Show with Dr. Strange
Disney likes to say that they are an entertainment company that offers cruises, not a cruise company that entertains and the proof of this simple but bold statement about the quality and class of cruise entertainment available on board the Disney Magic is on full display during Marvel Day at Sea when the stages of the Magic are transformed to transport your family to new worlds within the Marvel Universe. During Dr. Strange’s show, your kids will learn how to transport to incredible new realms and participate in a classic good vs. evil Marvel battle, and get a cool certificate after their training is complete!
Epic Final Marvel Day at Sea Show With Iron Man
Tony Stark himself hosts the climactic performance of Marvel Day at Sea, complete with hi-tech, eye-popping fireworks. Get ready for mind-blowing pyrotechnics, cinematic lighting and sound effects, and the largest collection of Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains ever assembled on a cruise ship!
And all of that above is just your Marvel Day at Sea! I know, right?!
During the rest of your Disney cruise, munch on delicious food all day and night, watch spectacular stage shows, explore exotic ports of call, and while in the comfort of your Disney Cruise Ship cabin, enjoy genius under-the-bed storage to maximize space and provide enough drawers for everyone in the family, a spacious bathroom with a sink area separate from the shower, and privacy curtains to divide the adult and kid sections of Disney Magic cabins.
We’re ready, Disney and Cruise Director Clayton! Take us away!!
