Top 5 Winter Activities in Duluth Minnesota

What do you do in Duluth, Minnesota in the winter? It’s cold, covered in snow. Did I mention that it’s cold? We’re Floridians! We weren’t sure what to do during our white Christmas vacation in Duluth, Minnesota, so we had to find out. We couldn’t just sit in the cabin by the fire the whole time! Well, maybe we could… Our daughter, Hunter, wanted to see snow for her December birthday and to have a white Christmas. Dad grew up in Northern Minnesota and still had family up there, so he knew how he could provide both for his...

Voluntourism in the Dominican Republic

How can we teach our kids about giving back? Or, how to help those in need? One way we did so, recently, was through an impact cruise and voluntourism. What is Voluntourism? Voluntourism can mean a lot of different things, practically. The definition is “a form of tourism in which travelers participate in voluntary work, typically for a charity.” How that voluntary work is executed is what takes different forms. For us, we went on a Fathom cruise to the Dominican Republic where we participated in several “impact” activities (the volunteer part of voluntourism). Our ship, the Adonia, was...

The Truth About the Universal Orlando Express Pass: Is It Worth the Cost?

Is a Universal Express Pass worth the money? We recently had the opportunity to find out. Since we had the Universal Express passes for a full day, we took this opportunity as a challenge to see if we could get both Universal parks done in one day, using the Express passes. While making the video, above, we learned that the Universal Express pass is quite controversial. Apparently, many feel it’s too expensive, Universal shouldn’t even have an “express line,” and that it ruins the experience of the parks. Let’s address some of these issues. Disclosure: Universal Orlando Resort provided...

As you pull up to the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel, you quickly realize, you’re at an actual train station! This is the old station for the Chattanooga Choo Choo! We all were pumped to stay and experience this unique hotel. I think I was the most excited, as my Mom’s family was a railroad family, so I grew up around trains and railmen. You can see my reaction...

Lion Country Safari

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! No wait, it’s just lions….and giraffes….and zebras…and more! On the way home from a recent trip to Miami, we made a stop at Lion Country Safari! This is a drive-through safari home to over 900 animals! This was a little out of the way on our drive home, but that is okay. When my wife was a kid, she loved going here and she’s been dying to take our kids to see the drive-thru safari in Florida! We saw rhinos, antelope, wildebeest, zebra, giraffes, and more! Some of the animals even got a...

Florida’s Summer Easter Egg Hunt!

Who has an Easter egg hunt over the summer? The state of Florida does in the Gulf of Mexico, every summer! Florida calls it scalloping, but it’s an Easter egg hunt that takes place in the ocean with snorkeling gear! Every summer, from late June to mid September, Floridians and out of state tourists flock to the Gulf coast in search of the elusive Florida bay scallop.
