Austin is not only the live music capital of the world but it seems that craft breweries are popping up all over the place!  As a dad and lover of beer I was inclined to do some research. Most of these places are amazing places to drink beer and are kid friendly too!  Check our my list of 4 – Kid Friendly Craft Breweries in Austin, Texas (in no particular order).

4 – Kid Friendly Craft Breweries in Austin

  1. Austin Beer Works

Austin beer works has one of the largest open area patio of the breweries I visited. It also has a large family style tables inside. It has a beer hall feel but also a family atmosphere.  When I visited I didn’t bring by kids but there was tons of families sitting out side enjoying the 80 degree February weather in Austin.  Kids were walking around and parents were enjoying a beer.
Beer Tip: One of my favorite beers they have on tap is their Sputnik, a Russian Imperial Stout.  It has an ABV of 8%, it’s a coffee stout and tastes so good.  If you find yourself in Austin anytime soon with the kiddos, stop by Austin Beer Works.
Dad Tip: The outdoor patio is semi fenced off so while you enjoy your beer be sure to keep an eye on the little ones.  It is located in an industrial area so there isn’t too much traffic on the main road but still we don’t want babies on the street.
  2. Black Star Co-op

Black Star Co-op was one of the first locally owned craft breweries in Austin that hit the scene. It popped up a few years back and I recently got to check them out.  They are extremely kid friendly. This place reminds me more of a restaurant than a beer hall or bar.  It has tons of booths (my kids love booths) for patrons to sit and a decent patio area.  The grassy area is not part of the brewery but when I visited kids were out playing on the grass.
Beer Tip: You can become a member of the co-op and actually own this brewery.  I thought that was pretty cool!   Also, each member gets to vote on future issues of the brewery and gets a free beer on the anniversary of the membership enrollment date.
Dad Tip: They have tons of games like checkers, chess, scrabble and a few others for everyone to play. Essentially, a family can have family game night at Black Star Co-op.  Also, they have amazing food!
  3. 4th Tap Co-op
Kid Friendly Craft Breweries in Austin
Another co-op and awesome brewery located in Austin is 4th Tap Brewery.  This venue has a tap room with live music most every weekend, I mean this is Austin!  But it also have a wrestling ring and arena located in the back.  Yes you read that right, a wrestling ring.  A few nights a month they host amateur wrestling matches and its is crazy pants.  I don’t know if the wrestling is good for the little ones but it is cool to watch.
Beer Tip:  If you like beer with a twist this brewery is for you! The Sun Eater is beer on tap infused with Rosemary and lemon peel. Perfect for a warm Texas day.  While I personally do not like it, everyone else that I talk to say it’s the greatest. I’ll let you decide.
Dad Tip: I’m not too sure if wrestling is the greatest for little ones but they do offer tons of board games and live music.
  4. Oskar Blues Brewery

Oskar Blues is new to Austin but not new to the craft beer scene.  It has been been operating in the Colorado area of over 14 years. It is a veteran in the game and the beer selection it offers proves it.  It’s iconic Dale’s Pale Ale is a great beer and so refreshing.  The venue is large and has tons of room for families and has a stage and classic arcade games.
Beer Tip: Dales Pale Ale is on point and I recommend it if you like ale.
Dad Tip: Give the kiddos a few quarters and let them go nuts on the classic arcades.
